Folks, we are down to the wire. The only thing standing between Chairman Sharon Bulova and Chairman Pat Herrity (gasp!) is YOU. That's right, you. If you are not calling, canvassing, or posting signs for Sharon Bulova this weekend, you are not standing in the way of disaster for Fairfax Coutny government. If you are reading this, you should ask yourself what you are personally doing between now and Tuesday to get another Democratic vote to the polls before 7 pm on February 3rd.

See below the flip for information on when and where to help.

Not to act before Tuesday is simply unconscionable. If you sit on the sidelines, our incredible progress that's resulted from legions of peoples' hard work over the last four years in Virginia, is at risk. Don't let us lose it, folks. We've worked too hard, and the quality of life in the best-managed large county in America is at risk.

Here is where you can find out where to report to get involved and make a difference. The differences between the candidates in this election could not be more stark. They could not have more impact on the priorities in Fairfax County that progressives have worked so hard over the last decade to instill in the public debate.

Affordable housing is at risk. A green county government is at risk. Adequate school funding is at risk. The quality of life in your neighborhood is at risk. Public health and safety could be at risk, including the jeopardy of millions in federal and state matching funds that are the only firewall stopping destitution and sickness for many Fairfax County citizens.

In short, we are all at risk, unless you get out and do something to help ensure Sharon Bulova's election on Tuesday, February 3rd.

Below are volunteers opportunities for the Bulova for Chairman special election coming up on Feb. 3rd, vote at your regular polling place. This schedule covers the last 4 days of the campaign starting Sat. Jan 31st thru Tues. Feb. 3rd. During this crucial Get Out the Vote time we will be talking to Sharon’s supporters and mobilizing them to vote on Tuesday so that we can continue the great stewardship of the county that we have gotten from leaders like Kate Hanley, Gerry Connolly, and Sharon Bulova.

Please get out there and DO SOMETHING to help ensure continued progress and a BLUE Virginia!

You beat me to it, thanks

This is it folks. If we don't win this one, kiss rail to Dulles goodbye, Cool Counties and LEED Certification will exist in name only. Herrity's lies about Sharon Bulova have slimmed the entire board and he has set himself up so that he could be nothing more than an obstructionist. Let's get out there and get our voters out to vote.

From driving through Faisfax last week,

From driving through Fairfax last week, I could see from the great "visibility" that a lot of work was likely behind all the signage. And other outstanding Democrat,s such as Jennifer Boysko, whose front porch became election central for Barack in Herndon, you did the same for Barack, Doug. And now you are giving such great energy (not to mention your front porch) once again. You are a role model for us all. And when Sharon Bullova wins on Tuesday, we in SW Virginia will also be reallyhappy and we'll realize the benefits of gaining another outstanding Dem, Sharon Bulova.

Thanks so much for all you do.

*Blushing*

Thanks Kathy, there's a lot of us all over Fairfax and Virginia who just do what we can to bring good government to our beloved commonwealth. It's been going pretty well lately, let's hope it continues....

Isn't it too late for Herrity to stop

the first phase of rail to Dulles? Haven't the final approvals been given?

Herrity isn't even trying to stop Dulles Rail

So your question is moot.

Yesterday was pretty good in Mount Vernon

Anyone who wants to get outside on a beautiful warm day (for January) and help, please come down to Lorton or either of our two Mount Vernon staging locations. We also have phone banking going on at Don Beyer Volvo, so PLEASE COME OUT AND HELP!

Campaign Strategy

I'll make this brief. I passed on going to a Bulova phonebank in favor of doing my own calling when I found out their strategy. It is much too narrowly focused....only calling those already identified as Bulova supporters. Come on now - I'm calling Strong Dems in my precinct, and let me tell you, at least half of them were not aware of, or not focused on, Tuesday's election...now ALL of them are. The campaign only had three walk packets, maybe 90 people in my district....which had over 3000 votes for Obama last time. You are missing a lot of potential. You surely have not had time to educate the voters on this election, which should be the #1 focus, IMO......OK, I'm going back to my lists.....e.g., a simple use of the VAN in my precinct identified almost 500 identified as Strong Dems. That's where I'll be. I do hope that everyone's efforts will be successful in Tuesday's election.

Anybody hearing anything???

turnout, exit polls, what she had for lunch???

Dismal Turnout in Early Voting

Turnout numbers from Mt Vernon

Kirkside and Westgate running neck and neck percentage turnout wise....two top performers for each party in Mt Vernon local elections.

Hollin Hall precinct turnout (definitely tilts strongly Democratic in local elections) has already hit 15% turnout.

Heavily Democratic and heavily minority precincts like Woodlawn, Bucknell, Huntington, Grosvenor much lower turnout (5-6%), but looking heavily Democratic.

Stratford, heavily worked by MVDDC & union helpers of the Bulova campaign, looks to be a bit above average turnout around 10%.

If Sharon Bulova wins both Stratford and Woodley (swing precincts) I think she's gonna win the whole thing. We got the word out to the local base Democratic LOCAL election voters. They all know. What sucks is a huge untapped pool of freshly energized Obama voters in the super-Dem precincts who were not on the GOTV lists.....and MANY of them could have been enticed out EASILY with a little attention.

In my precinct, Woodlawn, we contacted the entire GOTV list, and tried to expand that beyond that universe---hoping for at least an additional 50 votes from old Obama volunteers, newly registered people, and folks that weren't on the target list.

We'll see.....

Also, Springfield vs. Braddock

I am hearing that the turnout numbers between Springfield and Braddock are about running even....if so, that's VERY good news for Sharon Bulova!

Here's my reasoning on that:

Springfield will give Herrity a fairly big raw vote margin. Sully is likely to be a good district for Herrity too.....probably 60-40. But Hunter Mill, Braddock, Mason, Lee, and Providence are going to go strong the other way.....and likely match that raw vote out of Springfield and then some. That leaves Mt Vernon and Dranesville. Sharon has the advantage in both of them provided their GOTV base gets out and votes. The improved weather increases that likelihood, and I can speak for Mt Vernon and say that it looks like that is happening.

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic at this point.....unless and until I hear that turnout in Springfield preincts shoots up amazingly this afternoon, Sharon's going to be our next Chairman. 53-47% is my prediction....and that's probably a bit conservative....it may even be more like 55-45%.

absentee

doug -

Any word on the absentee ballots? I know Republicans tend to do well there...

No idea how many were out there

or where those voters tended to be from. That would be interesting. There was apparently a fair amount of absentee voter activity in this election however. One difference from the Alexandria 46th election, however, is that the Democratic Party organized a structured absentee program in this election. Hopefully it won't be quite as lopsided this time.

Frustrated

I know of two voters in Alexandria (their addresses are in Fairfax County by Route 1) and they don't seem interested in voting. I tried to get them to vote but neither of them seems interested.

Lee District is looking pretty good

I just went by Rose Hill precinct poll and they were doing a brisk business with a short line and cars coming in and out. I talked to Steve Bunn and he had just finished checking all Lee precincts at 5:45 and was cautiously optimistic we would be above 10%. Lee has a comparatively low turn out but should be favoring Sharon.

Lee District

I was the 309th person to vote at Lane Elementary. That was sometime around 6:15. It seemed like a few were still coming. I honestly don't know how that looks percentage wise, but I have to think it's pretty small.
